But there is a summer Aspen life as well. Early morning hikes up Smuggler and into Hunter Creek, a stop at the gym to find more friends and a lunch at Gusto’s.   Then go for some music in the afternoon at the tent or the Snowmass at Fanny Hill concerts on Thursday night. The Aspen Institute and Meadows summer lecture series will open your mind, then a little dinner at the top of Aspen Mountain and a quiet romantic ride down into a beautifully lit small mountain town. Location & Climate   With 300 days of sunshine annually, you’ll find the Aspen climate perfect for raising your spirits, raising your kids, raising cane or just walking your puppy in the crisp mountain air. The cold winter weather is more imagined than real as the winter chill is moderated by the low humidity. Brisk would be a better word for it and this pleasant fact is always a surprise to first-time visitors. Daytime winter temperatures are normally between 20 and 55 degrees and the evening temperatures make for fashionable strolls around town at 10-30 degrees. So bring your best strolling fashions. Aspen is tucked away in the White River National Forest, only 220 miles from Denver. At an altitude of 7,908, with daytime summer temperatures ranging from 65 to 85 degrees and evenings between 50 to 65 degrees, you’ll have plenty of great weather to enjoy your days.
Getting To & Around Aspen Aspen/Pitkin County Airport is served by United, Northwest and America West airlines and is only five miles from downtown. The Residence concierge services can make your arrangements for transportation to and from the airport. You can also reach Aspen through Eagle County Airport, a 75-mile drive from Aspen, and Denver International Airport, which is 208 miles away. We have a number of choices available among local transportation companies with solid experience driving in mountain conditions.

Sports for All Seasons

The Residence Concierge Service can make arrangements for any of the wonderful sports and activities you care to enjoy any time of year.

Warm weather recreation includes: golfing on Aspen championship courses up and down the valley; tennis at several nearby courts; hiking among the many scenic trails; horseback riding both guided and unguided; and mountain biking through the beautiful Rocky Mountain countryside. Visitors can also fish at the Roaring Fork and Frying Pan rivers, go on guided hunting trips, scenic air tours of the Aspen/Snowmass area, hot-air ballooning in the early morning air above lush mountain peaks or whitewater rafting on the Colorado, Roaring Fork and Arkansas rivers.

In winter, Aspen offers skiers and snowboarders four of the best skiing mountains to be found anywhere. Aspen Mountain (Ajax) with its world-renowned cruising, Highlands for the locals favorite, double-black challenges, Buttermilk for learners and families and Snowmass for virtually any kind of skiing you care to pursue from easy green cruisers to some of the wickedest hors categorie you’ll find in the lower 48. Together they form one enormous skiing environment. Under the control of the Aspen Skiing Company, they can be accessed with a single multi-mountain lift pass. The Residence Hotel is only one and a half blocks from the Aspen Mountain Gondola but, of course, we can arrange for shuttle service to and from Aspen Mountain and in the local region. (Inter-mountain shuttle is also available.) The Aspen Skiing Company makes lessons available for beginner, intermediate and advanced skiers. Private and group ski lessons are tailored to individual skill levels.

Additional winter fun includes snowshoe exploration of the surrounding mountains, horse-drawn sleighs and Aspen/Snwomass snowmobiling. The Silver Circle ice skating rink is just downtown and is open during winter months. The Aspen Ice Gardens, an indoor rink, is open year-round. There is a 32-foot climbing tower at the Aspen Recreation Center, an aquatic center, locker rooms, a youth center and five multi-use, outdoor playing fields.

No matter what your pleasure, after a full day of power sport or power naps, a dinner worthy of your attention can be found almost over every shoulder. Aspen gives you the choice among more than 100 restaurants and bars just steps from The Residence Hotel that will satisfy any craving. For world cuisine, visitors can dive into Mediterranean world favorites at Mogador and savor the true flavors of the French countryside at Rustique and Cache Cache. Explore outstanding sushi at Matsuhisa and Kenichi and revel in the flavors of Italy at Campo di Fiori and their sister establishment, Gusto Ristorante owned by Elizabeth & Luigi Giordani. There is plenty to do in Aspen when the sun goes down too, with an array of trendy bars, live music, upscale lounges and spirited sports bars. Evening hours bring out the best in those who cherish Bentley's at the Wheeler, the Red Onion or Eric's bar, and if dancing is in your shoes, Shooter's or the sleek Lava Room are close to hand. Or maybe just a walkabout in Aspen’s fashionable west end to relax before slipping off to sleep.
